Fisher Island Real Estate Listings for Sale and Lease

Fisher Island was created in 1905 through dredging and land reclamation. Named after Carl G. Fisher a land developer and automotive parts pioneer. The island was traded in 1925 to the Vanderbilt family in exchange for a luxury yacht.

Accessible only by ferry or boat, Fisher Island real estate is some of the most expensive in the world. One of the communities more notable conditions is being the area with the highest per capita income of any place in the United Sates.

After the Vanderbilts, the island was sold to US Steel heir Edward Moore. After that Gar Wood bought it in the 50’s. In 1963, Wood sold the Fisher Island to a development group that included local millionaire Bebe Rebozo, Senator George Smathers and at the time Vice President Richard Nixon.

The island has it’s own private marina, golf course, private school as well as a vast array of community amenities. Fisher Island’s real estate is composed of both condominiums and single family homes that retain the communities distinctive mediterranean look and feel.
